Overview

All About Neurodivergence is a growing zine series dedicated to educating the public about specific learning differences and neurodivergent experiences. Each issue breaks down complex neurological topics into clear, engaging visuals designed to inform and empower readers. The project combines my dual perspective as a designer and a neurodivergent individual, turning lived experience and research into accessible education for everyone.

Process

This series began after discovering zines in a book-making class and realizing their power as accessible educational tools. Drawing from my own experiences with SLD and ADHD, I use design to make misunderstood conditions understandable.

Each issue focuses on a single topic, such as ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, or Dysgraphia, with plans to expand to 21 total zines. I conduct research through Google Scholar, community spaces like Reddit and Pinterest, and peer discussions with other neurodivergent individuals.

Visually, every zine follows a consistent typographic identity using Eina 01 Semibold, Bold, and Semibold Italic, traced over with my own handwriting to add a human, imperfect touch that reflects the neurodivergent experience. Layouts shift subtly by topic but share a cohesive hierarchy and clean, infographic-inspired style.

Format & Tools

Zines are printed on 8.5 × 11 inch paper, folded into 14-page spreads, created primarily in Procreate and InDesign for layout and PDF formatting.

Impact

These zines have been shared through college events, conventions, and libraries, receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback. Many readers express excitement in recognizing themselves within the content, proof that awareness and representation matter deeply.

Reflection & Future Vision

Designing these zines reaffirmed my belief that design can be both empathetic and educational. My goal is to publish the full series on my website as a free public resource, accessible worldwide, and eventually distribute them to schools, libraries, and doctor’s offices to increase understanding and visibility of neurodivergent experiences.

“Kelly has fully embraced new processes this semester, and it’s been exciting to see her dedication and development. I’m looking forward to where her curiosity and hard work take her next.”
